The Holiday Season in the Auburn AL Community

Holidays on the Plains is a festive and delightful time of year in the Auburn AL community and Opelika AL community. Every year the Auburn Chamber of Commerce & Opelika Chamber of Commerce plan a variety of events one can enjoy getting our community in the “Christmas Spirit”. Whether visiting various Auburn properties and Opelika properties looking at the Christmas lights or attending one of the many holiday events hosted by each Chamber of Commerce there is sure to be something for everyone in our Auburn AL community & Opelika AL community. Auburn Christmas Parade

December  11^th at 10AM: Downtown Auburn AL

The parade will begin at the corner of Thach Avenue and College Street, turn left onto College Street, turn right onto Glenn Avenue, right onto Gay Street and right again on Thach. The parade will end where it began on the corner of Thach and College.

Poinsettia Truckload Sale

Friday, & Saturday December 3 & 4 • Elks Lodge • 1944 Opelika Road, Opelika AL

Just in time for the holidays, the Junior League of Lee County (JLLC) will hold its annual Poinsettia Truckload Sale. Two sizes of poinsettias will be sold this year, a 6.5-inch for $11 and a 10-inch for $22. Both sizes are available in a variety of colors. Contact any League member or email juniorleagueofleecounty@gmail.com for more information. All monies raised from this annual fundraiser will go to assist the various arts and literacy programs for children supported by the JLLC throughout the community through the awarding of grant funds and volunteer services.

SEC Championship Game at the Event Center Downtown

Saturday, December 4 • 2PM • Railroad Avenue • Downtown Opelika

Event Center Downtown and Auburn Tiger fans join together for the SEC Championship game. Doors open at 2:00pm. Free admission, $3 slices of pizza or $5 Chick-fil-A sandwich combos available for purchase, and live music after game by incredible musicians Steve Smith, Ron Hall, Andrew Darby, Brett Martin, and Todd Freeman. Drink specials are $3 craft beers and $3 bloody mary’s. The game will be broadcast live on a really big screen TV and several flat screens. Food available for purchase through halftime. Teddy Bear Teas at Piccolo

Piccolo’s warm and cozy atmosphere will be the family-friendly destination this holiday season as it hosts the second annual Teddy Bear Teas on December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 at 2 p.m. in Piccolo. A real live Teddy Bear and Christmas Elf will provide entertainment and hugs. The price is $20 per person. “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten”

Sponsored by the Arts Association of East Alabama, The Auburn Area Community Theatre will present this production, based on the books of Robert Fulghum.  Angel Tree Open House

Doctors Hearing Clinic would like to invite friends of the Chamber to an Angel Tree Open House to benefit the Salvation Army. Join them for a chance to “Adopt an Angel” and to give to a child in need this Christmas. Refreshments will be served and FREE hearing evaluations will be given to all who adopt an angel. Trinity United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church will be open for fellowship and refreshments. There will be wassail and cookies at the Brownfield House. The Heritage Carolers will be caroling throughout the neighborhood after their performance at the Brownfield House. Streets will close at 5:30 p.m. and reopen at 9 p.m.

Opelika Main Street sponsors this wonderful event where you will find Santa and Mrs. Claus, train, carriage and pony rides, petting zoo, inflatable’s, face painting, balloons, Children’s Village, Christmas mask scavenger hunt, local entertainment and late night shopping and dining. Wagon and trolley rides will take you through the Victorian Porch Tour, make a gingerbread house and enter it in the gingerbread House Contest, buy or make your own fresh wreath, screen print a CRRT t-shirt, visit the Museum of East Alabama and have your Christmas cards hand-stamped with a special Christmas In A Railroad Town stamp, and so much more!  Event Center Downtown Open House

Friday, December 10 • 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. • Railroad Avenue • Downtown Opelika

Event Center Downtown will host a Christmas Open House during the Christmas in a Railroad Town featuring re-known artist Dr. Ronald McDowell. Dr. McDowell will be readily available to do live individual or group sketch portraits from 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Individual portraits are $60. Additional people are $50. These prices are a one-time only Event Center Downtown holiday special. Individual sketches are drawn in an approx 15-20 minute timeframe. A sample of both an individual (drawn in-person) and a couple sketch portrait (drawn from photo) is to the right. Live music starts at 8:00pm by the talented group The Southern Gentlemen. The open house is free. Come tour the former Coca-Cola Bottling Company re-invented!

 LCHS to Hold 15th Annual Campaign, No More Wasted Lives

Monday, December 13 • Kroger Dean Road Parking Lot

Jessica Marable, Lee County Humane Society (LCHS) Executive Director, will remain locked in a dog kennel, day and night, until the fund-raising goal of more than $24,000 is reached. No More Wasted Lives is the shelter’s largest fundraiser, and all proceeds from this campaign directly benefit the animals at the shelter. The shelter cares for more than 6,000 animals annually and hopes to raise $4 for every animal that came through the shelter’s doors over the past year. LCHS also provided services for 6,077 animals last year. The goal is to raise $24,308 in honor and memory of these animals. Visit Jessica and support the shelter by making a donation. Holiday cards will be available to send to loved ones acknowledging donations made as memorials or honorariums. Donations to the Lee County Humane Society are tax-deductible, and all donors will receive a letter acknowledging their gift. All proceeds from No More Wasted Lives will benefit adoption programs for Lee County Humane Society.
